Back in November  I dropped her off for the clutch repair & 4K maintenance.  3 days later I called.  Waiting on a part.  A week went by.....10 days.  I called again.  "Oh yeah, she's BEEN ready."   Oh, why didn't you call?  We DID call you.   Well, funny I never talked to you or got a message on the three contact numbers I left you.    pimochio
So OK fine, she's ready & I go to pick her up.
I pull out the debit card.  Oh, we don't take plastic.  Our machine's been down for a month.
Check book, uh uh. (points to sign on the wall)
OK, well I don't have $260 cash on me, and my son dropped me off, so will you make an exception?  dunno
Uh uh, can't (pointing to aforementioned sign.) censored
Ohhhhh kaayyy.....so what do you suggest I do? (As they're putting my bike away)
Where you live, lady? And on it went until I called my son, he brought me cash & I wrote HIM a check.
Would've been nice if they told me CASH ONLY on the phone before I got there is all I'm sayin'.

wow....it never ceases to amaze me how some owners seem to intentionally try to loose money/business.

Sounds like you need to find a new shop Mimi.   A shop that takes cards, checks, cash, IOU's.........I would be scared to go to.   A shop that won't accept anyithing except cash...I WOULDN'T go to.

well, at my shop i only take cash and checks, preferably cash...why?? cause i lost my ass on credit card machine. i thought i would get one soon as i started my business cause everyone uses plastic.....sheya right...
the first year i had the credit machine, i barely even used it, it took like 2 or 3 months before my first card purchase. anyway, by the end of the year, i had spent more on the machine than i took in on it.

this went on into the second year. so i finally got tired of spending money on it, and i cancelled early (signed 4 year contract) well i had to pay like 700 dollars, but it was worth it to not have to deal with these assholes(several problems arose and customer support was almost non existant, and they could never get my customer id right, im like come on, you have no problem billing me, but i can't get any help?) so, after i bought that out, found out, i had to contine to pay 40 something dollars a month for the lease on the machine...a 100 dollar machine...40 something dollars for 4 years, you do the math...i screwed up by signing the contract, but at the time, the price these guys offered me sounded better than anyone else i had spoken to.

bottom line is, i did mess up by going with the wrong company, but i dare say, you would be hard pressed to find a card company that doesnt suck. they are just part of the big corporate card companies, that has helped get America into the debter nation that we are.they lure you in with low prices and promises of great service, and convenience.....not me, no sir, no more credit cards for me, only debit, check, and cash. if it is worth buying, i will go to bank/credit union, if you can't afford, don't buy it(preaching at myself).

off box now

Taking credit/debit cards is always a burden on the vendor -WHY?

Because everyone assumes the business man has all the money - because all that money is going in HIS direction.

I looked into credit/debit machines when I started my business, but like Shannon said the fees were so outrageous I found another alternative - Paypal
-They charge 2% on each transaction (which I am OK with)
-No monthly fees
-No BS equipment, rentals, or contracts

And besides, I take about 50 credit cards/year, so what do i need a contraption for? Jump on your email and check out, seeya.

And as far as HawgShop goes, those guys are just some good ol boys, that work on bikes, shadetree mechanix in a shop.  They have always been good to me, and have done work that nobody else would touch.  This is not a polished organization, but they do not cater to the BMW-Ducatti crowd either.

You could always try GarageCompany ?  If Larry does not treat you right I will beat him up  dancer

oh, mimi, i was not trying to play down the aggro, i totally understand getting somewhere without cash or check on hand and being left to your own devices. that situation sucks. and them not telling you the bike is ready is another thing i feel your pain on. i just thought i would share my dealings as a business owner so maybe others might understand the whole suckyness of the card industry.

better luck next time happy

LMAO @ Thornsby! Been there and done that exact same story buddy! The credit card companies or processing companies give you no choice if you want/need a machine in your business. 4 year lease on equipment....no service......no support....but your bill is always on time! lol "NONE CANCELABLE" (or however you spell it) is in huge print on your equipment lease.....everything else is in tiny print. You just about gotta have one these days if you deal with a lot of public...debit cards seem to be the main currency.....and it's great for the customer...........but it's an evil empire for any business to have to deal with. Your business gets an automatic deposit about 3-4 days after you take the customer's card and that's after 3-4 hands have already been in it taking their cut!
