What is Join Me On The Bridge?

"With the tenth anniversary of the UN Millennium Development Goals in 2010, we are given pause to reflect on the tremendous work left to be done in order to eradicate poverty and achieve equality for all the world’s citizens.  70% of the world’s poor are women and 75% of the civilians killed in war are women and children.

In the  Republic of the Congo, site of over 5 million deaths and hundreds of thousands of rapes in a conflict spanning more than a decade, women are imagining peace. They say peace means being able to live and to work freely. They see peace as walking to the fields without fear of rape; they envision a more prosperous future, harvesting from the fields the fruits of their own labor. Yet war wages on.

To honor the resilience of these and the millions of other women survivors of war around the world, Women for Women International is hosting a global campaign – Join me on the Bridge - which will unite women all over the world in a global women’s movement showing that women can build the bridges of peace and development for the future.  On March 8, 2010, thousands of women will stand together in Congo and neighboring Rwanda to demand peace and development.  Supporting them in their call for the war’s end will be thousands of women from Afghanistan, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, Sudan, Nigeria, as well as in the United States and the United Kingdom, to say no to war and yes to peace and hope.

There will be Join me on the Bridge events on Monday, March 8 in New York City and London.
Join us as we walk together across major bridges and then gather to create peace banners! "  (quoted directly from the Woman for Women website)

Our Meet us on The Bridge event is set!
March 6th we will leave HOD at 9:30am, so be fueled up and ready to roll! This ride is open to everyone.

We plan to be on the Edmund Pettis Bridge at NOON on March 6th offering messages of Hope and Peace to women around the world.
Come and join us...and sign our banner with offerings of peace messages.

It... is also the weekend of the Jubilee on the Bridge with lots of events going on at the
bridge.  What this means for us....we will have to park where we can find a place and walk to the Bridge...
Following the meeting on the bridge and the banner signing...we will ride down to the Golden Ranch BBQ to EAT!

RSVP at the website so we can know to look for you!
While it is not necessary to RSVP...
It would be cool if you would.

Just wanted to remind everyone about

Saturday March 6

Ride to the Bridge!!

We will leave HOD at 9:30am.

This is a very easy ride...we will go through Helena, Montevallo, Maylene, Maplesville, Stanton and then Selma.  It is roughly 75 miles to Selma.

After assembling together on the Bridge...and getting some folks to sign our banner of peace and hope for women around the world. we will ride to lunch and head on home.

If you have a camera...bring it!

Look forward to seeing y'all Saturday!

Ride is open to all.
