I wish you nothing but the best!  Thumbs up

Update:

Called Peru yesterday to talk to someone about the bike rental and sleeping arrangements. Generally just to hear what im dealing with.

Conversation:
Peruvian: "Hola  blah blah nacho nacho mui nacho que ?"

me : " uh. mi yammo es Don"

Peruvian: "ahhh Don ! nacho nacho nacho burrito. Tu Hablla Espanol? "

me: "Habla pokito epanol. ser terrible" "su habla engles?"

Peruvian; "ha ha ha. nacho nacho.. con queso burrito. .... I received your e-mail. It is better for me if we talk with e-mail. more easy to understand"

me: oh bueno ok

there is going to be lots of monkey language (point grunt)

Also 1$ = 3 Peruvian Nuevos Sols

My ATC3000 came in today. It is what I will be using for the Peru Trip. I went with the 3000 because it has a wider field of view that the 2000 and it can run 4GB SD cards.

It came with a variety of mounting garbage but nothing seemed like it was capable of handling anything serious. So I started digging around in my tool box and found some "industrial strength" Velcro. Seemed like a good place to start.

The camera stayed on after a vigerous shaking but it still didnt seem secure enough for me. So, I pulled out the Dremel tool. Used the circle saw to cut 4 verticle lines through the visor of my helmet so that I could run Zip Ties through the visor and around the camera mounting hardware.

This is the underneath side of the visor with the Zip Ties sinched down.

I added a nut and bolt under the front of the camera mount to raise and lower the camera angle. it helped a lot

And this is the finished product

Im pretty dang sure this sucker will not come off ..even if my head hits the ground... hopefully it wont.

Have you tested this out yet?

Test it, they NEVER work like you expect it to.

Take lots of SD cards too.  Post some sample footage

Medicines.  Pepto, aspirin, sudafeds, etc.  Anything you might ever want to take to get you through a work day.  It'd suck to have a trip like this sidelined because you couldn't keep your lunch down.

got it coveredThumbs up
Went to see my M.D. this week.
I picked up scrip for some anti-Altitude sickness pills.
He told me that he had been to Cusco before with a group of people. 3 of them couldnt leave their rooms because of Altitude sickness (severe headache and flu-like symptoms.)  {12}

Good thinking.  A hotel type toiletry kit wouldn't be bad, either.  Small enough to pack easy, and could be handy.  I'd also talk to the guys that went on the TAT trip and pick their brains a bit.

as for the camera mount i bet thvisor is not the best place to put it seems like it will have twice as much movement as say if it were just mounted to the top or side of the lid i would think the side would be best too since it dose not add height to you (low branches and such) and if something dose hit it on the visor its coming off with visor attached just my POV though dose not really mean anything

things to bring

good blister kit
duct tape
lots of zip ties
gold bond
bug spray with high deet

maybe water filter ?
they make ones that will screw on to the mouth of your camel pack

man just have fun i wish i could do a trip like this

if you will just take a day to lay low and sleep...you will probably be fine...
I have had altitude sickness...soooo not fun.

I found it is better to take the first day to "acclimate"

Mainly I just feel like yawning at high altitudes...and I found myself saying...dang there just isn't enough AIR up here!

UPDATE::
I sent perumototours an e-mail on Sunday.
I asked them how many others would be doing the ride with me.
I told them that I didnt really care to site see. I just wanted to ride as much as possible in 3 days on dirt roads and good twistie roads.
I told them that i didnt want to visit "the hot baths" or ride a bus, or visit the Santa Taresa (whatever the hell that is) and that I didnt want a full day to "explore' machu picchu.

they replied today:
they told me that I would be the only one on the ride.... {17}   ... F**K YEA!!!
Just me and the guide.
3/4 of the ride will be off road. They added more kilometers to the ride (a lot more).
The only major stops that we will make are to sleep and to tour machu picchu.

Leaving from atlanta at 7pm tomorrow sep. 1
Arrive in Cusco at 11:30am sep 2
Ride starts Sep 3

Private guide and more riding. That is freakin' awesome. I hope he's cool because he's the only friend you will have for a week.

Take care of yourself down there.
