Thanks Dirty,
Ive never been to the top of those power lines but I know about the sewer line / swamp area. Its gotten pretty bad (nasty).
There also used to be an old house out there in the woods. We rode by there today and it was no longer there.

On the first page of this Topic Dredman posted a google map that can be dragged around / zoomed in and out.
It looks like the powerline we are talking about used to run all the way to the hoover met / elvira road. (wouldnt that be a friggin ride !)

that's awesome that ya'll are at least still riding what's left out in that area.
the house your talking about used to be one of three houses that used to be out there. i actually knew a cpl of the folks that used to live in one of them.

my first rides out there were from the early 70's. back then i could leave from my grandmother's house in powderly below the gas depot and climb up onto the mountain close to the songo mine....or the pipeline next to the #13 mine.  from there i / we could ride all day and not get back on any paved roads unless we needed some gas or something to eat or drink, etc. i used to know all the trails from red mtn thru shannon on over to as far as paradise lakes on hwy 150(close to the galleria). later on we started getting on out farther and used to ride the pipelines and powerlines that run from the hoover met over to the "bowl" woods......but.....back then there was no met,no lakeshore, and no i 459.......in fact where the hoover met is now used to be called "mars hill". we used to go to the only gas station that was around there then and it was called mars hill grocery.
that whole area used to be "the place" to go to ride. i can remember riding around the mines on red mtn when they were still un-disturbed and worrying about some one popping up to run us kids out from riding around them...lol.
i remember when b'ham t&t used to have enduro's out there.....they would use the barber's milk parking lot in oxmoor for the starting area.
lol....i could go on and on about the trails out there. lots of good memory's from out there. Thumbs up

quick search turned up this page with some interesting history behind the mars hill area i mentioned on my last post.....

http://www.hooveral.org/Default.asp?ID=698

not sure about the reference about the mars hill grocery of 1997,but it was called that back in the 70's/80's and it was in front of a trailer park....it was a gas station/convenience store type deal back then.

lol...talking about this stuff makes me feel... old

Wow, all of this brings back memories. I used to ride in the enduros that started in the old Liberty Supermarket on Greensprings and from there through Shannon in the 70s. I also remember getting a friends truck stuck in the mud out at Mad Dog and having to walk all the way back to Hoover mall in the middle of the night to use the payphone. Those were the days. Also riding on the costruction section of 65 south in Hoover to Alabaster.

What did you ride back then? I may have ridden with you. I had an old kawi 100 and then bought a buckhorn 350 in the gold color. I rode with quite a few kids in the hoover area. You are about as old as I am.

that's awsome...somebody that can relate to my/our old riding spot. respect

i'm 45 yo...my profile age is wrong.....the very first rides out there were on a gold colored yamaha 100 enduro. then a silver kawasaki kdx175,then as i got more experienced,i bought my first(on my own) real dirtbike....a used 78 husky or390 black and gold colored. also if my dad wasn't riding it i could use his red/white 76 xt500. then in the early 80's i bought my first brand new bike...82 yz490 in the traditional yellow/black colors. these were what i would be riding there and during that time Thumbs up

i'm sure we crossed paths a time or two back then. one of my very best friends i used to ride there with was shannon woods(his real name),his dad john woods was in the b'ham t&t back then. i met alot of folks thru them but can't remember most of their names now.

I rode the Shannon enduros with my uncle. Where did you live back then? What highschool did you attend? I lived in Hoover but went to Shades Valley.

well i lived in green acres/central park till i was about 10 yo.....my grandmother lived in powderly only 5 minutes away....that was my easiest way to get to the woods when i was a really young kid...lol.
after that we moved to pleasant grove......i went to h.s. in pleasant grove and at minor h.s. also. after we moved there i had to truck/trailer my bike to get back out in shannon to ride. we used to park at either the powerstation (right off from lakeshore now) or on the gravel/dirt road that today is industrial drive in oxmoor.

I lived in Bluff Park back then and rode a IT 200. Shannon was so much fun back then! We could start by the tracks and ride to 150 then hit mad dog all the way to the bowl! This was our saturday tradition.
Thinking about it does make ya feel a little  old That was about 23 years ago!

23 years ago mad dog road was a good spot that we would take a break at.....i remember the old train tressle/tunnels there that you could ride in.
we rode thru the tunnel going under shades crest rd. a cpl times.....actually really dangerous...lol.
i also remember alot of "strange people" that would go there and do whatever strange things they got off doing there.......stolen cars.......painting occult type graffeti......dumping out garbage.... shooting anything/everything in sight...etc.

Ya'll ever seen an old yellow n white Suzuki 2 stroke stuck in the top of an oak tree? It was right off the power lines that went to the old dump at Brihton. That was mine, went off the road at the hill about a 1/2 mile before you got to the dump. I got out of the tree but the bike stayed.

As much as I was out there (fishing, hunting, riding and partying) I never ran into any of them. We used to go mud riding out there at night all the time. I rode through the old lakebed a couple of years ago and it seemed mighty small.

i'm not sure about current activity of those type of people(satanic-occult) out there...i was referring to a time of 20-25 years ago.

i think they did some work on the old dam for that lake and i thought it would be a lake again.....but since it's still a dry bed,i guess not.
at the old dam when there was enough water flowing it had a few spots on it that made some cool waterfalls, but the mosquitoes would actually drain all of your body fluids within 5 minutes while stopping there.

Yall talking about this dam? Or something on the shades crest side? They made it very hard to ride the S/C side of it now.
