Nutt Up or Shut Up Time!
« on: July 08, 2012, 11:09:38 AM »
Well, bought the bike 4 weeks ago.....had business travel, then had to order my gear....did all of the maintenance...and it sat in the garage waiting and waiting for me to git' er dun and ride..sniff sniff, whaaaa, whaaaa, whaaaaa....you get the point.  It was beyond time to commission the new ride and get back in the saddle for the first time since I was in college many moons ago.  Finally had some time this a.m., so it was nutt up or shut up time.

I bought an 07 Ninja 650R to bust the nutt of monotony and Same Sh&^ Diff Day and do something I wanted for some fun (work 2 jobs....always on the go).

Took her out for my first run today.  I worked on throttle control, clutch work, turns and all the basic crap you seasoned dawgs take for granted for about an hr and a half...had some fun for sure.  I know I can't walk or run unless I have a solid foundation to work with.

It was fun and I know I need to work on my basic skills a few times this week before I link up with a few of my local friends to go on my first real ride with a little safe mileage and reasonable speed to learn from some experienced riders.  I write this stupid little thread to remind you salty road dawgs what it is like for a noob....don't forget about us.  I can't wait to work up the skills to link up with a few of you gents for a ride this late summer or fall.

Thanks Dred.  Yeah...shelving the ego for a few rides should hopefully pay dividends later on down the metaphorical trail.

Got an afternoon run mid week and Saturday a.m. on the books and we should be doing a a planned ride this coming Sunday with a few friends.  They are all kewl and supportive as they have all been there/done that before.

as have we all. don't think you have to wait before joining a ride, most people here are good folks and will not run off and leave you lost. glad your back in the breeze.

Logged some more solo 2 wheel hrs this week.  Got some good local/rural loops in and more speed along with the basic stuff.  I am feeling 100% better and I am ready for some bigger loops/distance.

Need to load the camera up for the next ride so that I can contribute at least a pic of my bike at a location of interest.  Who knows...maybe contribute to the best burger in AL thread at some point cause it always makes my hungry.

Really diggin the Ninja 650R.  It has enough torque and power to get my noob adrenaline flowing but so far, not enough to freak me out.  It is really a good first street bike IMHO, as I know I can grow into it.  More to come as  build and prep by skills for some late summer/fall rides with you guys.

I myself showed up here not long ago. I had my bike (first street bike) about a year at that time. I've rode it every chance I've had and a few I shouldn't have since the day I got it. That being said I thought that I had progressed alot in the 6k miles i put down last year. But now in the last few months from riding with some of these guys and even the gymkhana and gp8 events it has vastly improved my skills and confidance on my bike. I've still got a loooong way to go but I'm enjoying the ride.  :-*

THX gents.  Got lucky and landed a few of my experience buds to ride some more this pm.  Logged my longest loop yet and had a blast.  Was also valuable to have a experienced lead and my paramedic bud as clean up in the back.

I want to gradually build up my experience before I start to mingle with the cagers in closer confines.  I have a lot to learn yet.
