GP8 Thursday 10-10-2013 @ The Grove
« on: October 08, 2013, 07:14:34 PM »
This is the short session!

Cone head pre meeting at 7, lights on at 7:15, I hope. I want your input about what is next on the horizon, and how to get there, so we'll cut it short (before 9) and ride somewhere for outside eating and your ideas on how to make stuff better.

First suggestion as to where wins. 8)

Where is The Grove ? HERE !
 *, AL 35226,33.362524,-86.849542

When at The Grove ? 7pm - until - we usually ride and chat until around 9-10 depending on how many cool kids show up.

Why ? To make all of us better, one loop of cones at a time. Feel the difference on your very next ride !

only three rules:
NO WHEELIES (scooters are allowed)
NO ALCHOHOL (scooterists are high anyway)

IF ANYONE FALLS: EVERYONE STOPS IMMEDIATELY, ENGINES OFF and KICKSTANDS DOWN, UNTIL TOLD OTHERWISE.
There will be no harassment of the newbies!!! if you think you're a newbie, and are afraid someone might point and laugh, relax, it will not be tolerated.  :-*

these patterns will make you grin:
1 circle of trust- 24ft circle, show us outside, then inside, both directions, before you ride the others, please. (8-10 seconds / revolution is normal)

2 gp8- a simple figure 8 (10ft start box, 10ft to first cone, 40ft to "8" turn - 5 times)  a rider attempts to traverse with smooth control and precision, on a motorcycle. (45 seconds- 1 minute is normal)

3 rude butterfly- cycles riders through faster, the smoother your throttle the faster your times....
10ft start box, 40ft to left turn, 50ft to right circle, 50ft to right circle, 50ft to left turn, 50ft home to box.... (25-35 seconds is normal)

4 hooked snake- its just a slalom, what's the big deal ?....
10ft start box, 30ft to 1st cone, 20ft to 2nd (10ft offset), 15 ft to 3rd cone, 12ft to 4th, right hand circle, return through slalom. (45 seconds to a minute  and a half is normal for this advanced course)

5 buttersnake - everyones' nemesis the hooked snake with a oh so buttery splash to make it all go down easy....

A life of Adventure begins with the first one.

If you have to put a sticker on the window of your truck for people to know what kind of bike you have. Maybe you should ride more.

thanks everyone for stuffing the suggestion box this time 'round. it was really good to see the supersports tearing up the cones. yall made it happen.  excited

there was a pogo-ing cruiser there too, if you've seen 'ride like a pro' it was very similar, if not better.  :-*

even got to see some old dirt ridin buddies (HEY !) in the post-work casual attire.

just in case anyone had intentions of trying to be the cone head king come november...

forget it. you have no chance. none. nada. zilch. unless you find a wee man honda like the one someone thrashed at the last montevallo event, or .... another seXR 100 like this leaning demon (attachement)

It is just not fair :). Do you *know* how far I'd have to lean over to drag knee??! His 6'+Some can just stick his giraffe legs' knees out and kiss the pavement.  With me, my bike would be kissing pavement too haha! 0:-)

Yeah yeah...The thought was considered, but I'm able to think first about what I say when I type.

Great turnout, and great vibe last night ! Thanks to everyone that made and effort and gave it a go. :D

The Chevron setup last night worked very well for both super sports and larger cruisers, I think it has a place in future gp8s. I was really impressed with the "I don't wanna go home yet maw!" I saw from the super sports, a crazy bright green one in particular. You talked, I listened, we can always make a faster course if you want it, but the goal is to improve lower speed handling and actually toss the bike around some on Thursdays. The tight end looked to be working well, and everyone did a great job of not only just maneuvering, but improvising once they had the "easy" setup in the bag. A slalom around the chevron looks to be a very good addition for the riders and bikes that can navigate it.

The gated modification of Buzz's five fingers of death will likely be too tight, I'll work on it and see what buzz thinks can be done to  improve the parts I screwed up. O0

Also, wee man and your honda, LOOK OUT,  there is a new shark in the water... A honda xr100 with uber grip and flip flop steering ! Come Montevallo time, I hope you bring the A game, cause these guys want blood !

Ridden:
seXR 100
TRIUMPH ROCKET (derserving of the caps!)
Gsxr600

Next week the plan is a mini gymkhana course, with all your favorites linked together. Bring your bike and some ideas you want to see, there will be plenty of time for discussion while each person negotiates the course cleanly :D
